Dress Code/Field Trips/Homework

Dress Code

Per APS, student dress and grooming is to reflect high standards of personal conduct so that each student’s attire promotes a positive, safe and healthy atmosphere within the school.

Unacceptable clothing and accessories include, but are not limited to:

  • Gang-related attire
  • Excessively tight or revealing clothing
  • Short shorts
  • Clothing that exposes the stomach or midriff
  • Low-cut blouses
  • Spiked jewelry
  • Chains
  • Clothing or accessories promoting:
    1. Drugs (including alcohol and tobacco)
    2. Sexual activity
    3. Violence
    4. Disrespect or bigotry toward any group

In addition to this, at Ventana Ranch:

  • Hats, scarves, bandanas and sunglasses are not worn inside buildings or classrooms but are encouraged for wear outside to protect from sun damage.
  • Clothing should fit comfortably and be appropriately sized. Excessively baggy pants (those which are more than one size too large) are not allowed at school.
  • Shorts and skirts should be no shorter than “fingertip length.” The same fingertip measure will be used to judge appropriate length for t-shirts, and the width for shoulder straps.
  • Students may not wear “Heeleys” or “Roller Blades” or any other shoes with wheels while on the campus.
  • We highly encourage closed toed flat shoes in order to stay safe while on the playground.

If the dress code violation is correctable at school, the student will make the necessary changes. If the student needs a change of clothing, he/she will wait in the office until a parent or guardian provides appropriate clothing.

Field Trips

Field trips provide an opportunity for teachers to expand on what is being taught in class, or in some cases, to reward students for exemplary behavior. The APS district requires prior approval of field trips by the principal. Fees may be required in order for students to participate in field trips. If fees are a hardship for families please contact the office, or teacher, for assistance.

Please note that field trips are a privilege, not a right. Your child’s field trip can be taken away for behavior, excessive absences or tardies. Please check with the classroom teacher when and if this occurs. Money paid for a field trip is nonrefundable if a child misses the activity for any reason.

Teachers provide a deadline for field trip money to be turned in so that there is sufficient time to count and submit to the secretary. Please adhere to the due dates for all field trip money. If the deadline is missed your child will not be allowed to attend the field trip.

Students may not participate in field trips without official APS school field trip forms on file. Please be sure to fill out and sign both sides of the permission form. Verbal permission or handwritten notes will not be accepted.

Teachers will not release students from the field trip location. Parents must check students out in the office prior to leaving for the field trip or upon returning to school.

Finally, student’s siblings will not be permitted to attend field trips.

Homework

Homework provides an opportunity for students to develop responsibility. Teachers at Ventana Ranch will provide meaningful activities that reinforce skills introduced in the classroom. It is a tool for nurturing communications and interactions between the student, parent, and school as well as a means of teaching study habits.

Homework is assigned on a regular basis daily, weekly or monthly. It is assigned to be consistent with district minimum and maximum time limits based on age and grade levels. In addition, Nightly Reading will be assigned for a set amount of assigned for extended periods (i.e. Science fair projects). Please see your child’s teacher for more information in regard to homework.

Regarding make-up work, Ventana Ranch follows APS policy of providing homework for students upon their return to school. When a student returns to school he/she will have the same number of days to make up the work missed as the number of days he/she was absent. Homework will not be given prior to the absence.
