We have an exciting event coming up Monday, August 21st, “The Great American Eclipse”!  For this event, our area can expect to see the moon cover 73.7% of the sun. The moon will be in the sun's path starting at 10:21 am and continue for 2 hours 52 minutes. The best time to see the peak of the eclipse will be 11:45 am.  For this event, Ventana Ranch ES will use the following plan:

  • Ventana Ranch will follow a regular schedule.  However, all outdoor lessons/recesses will be conducted indoors beginning at 10:10 a.m.until 1:15 p.m.
  • Students in grades 4-5 will be permitted to participate in outdoor eclipse lessons and will use proper safety procedures.
  • Any students (grades 4-5) who wish to participate in outdoor viewing activities must have permission slips, there will be alternate viewing options for students without permission slips.
  • Alternate viewing activities will be provided to teachers (grades PK-5) to use at their discretion.

Albuquerque Public Schools has made it easier for families to apply for free and reduced-price meals with an online process in English or Spanish that walks them through the process.

Fill out online application

Only one application is needed per family, even when children attend different APS schools. Families need to fill out the application every year, even if they qualified in previous years.  While the application can be filled out anytime, families are encouraged to complete it before school starts. It's also available through the APS breakfast and lunch menu mobile app, YumYummi, which you can download from Google Play or iTunes App Store.

We've made some changes to bus stop locations, numbers and arrival/drop off times. Our goal is to get students to school a little earlier so they have time to eat breakfast.

To find out what bus your child should ride, click here and type in your address or visit MyBusStop.aps.edu.

APS provides bus transportation to:

  • Elementary School students who live more than 1 mile from their school of residence
  • APS DOES NOT provide school bus transportation to transfer students.
  • Please Note: If your student is in kindergarten, the parent must be present at the bus stop in the afternoon; otherwise, the bus driver will take the student back to their school.

Teacher Appreciation Week May 1st-May 5.

Love on those teachers!  Here are some ideas for the week.

Monday-Supply them with your love.  Give them some extra sharpies, dry-erase markers, post-it notes, you name it!  Or even their favorite beverage.

Tuesday-Display of Affection.  Tell them a special Thank you, give a hug, or an extra high-five.

Wednesday- Thank the EA's, music teacher, librarian, Cafeteria workers, our janitors, office staff, and other support staff with a special treat!

Thursday- Make their day bright with flowers or a homemade card.  Also, PTA will be providing lunch for the staff.  If you would like to bring a dessert, please let us know.

Friday-Special gift to show how much you love those teachers!  Gift cards are a great suggestion!

This Pokemon Deck Guide was created by one of our 5th Grade students, Ezekiel Henderson, as part of his Genius Hour project in Mrs. Sager's Class.

According to Mrs. Sager, "Genius hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school.

I set aside 1 hour per week for students to explore their passions. This is a year-long project that they must come up with a question that involves deep research and inquiry. They then must decide why this information is important, who is their audience, and how they will share this information. Through discovery they oftentimes learn that a really good question only leads to further questions. Their projects require them to not only research online and books, but to interview experts in the field they are exploring. They are encouraged to think beyond our classroom/school when sharing their projects."

Zeke chose to share his project on our Ventana Ranch News Feed in order to help share this information with as many students as possible.

For more information on Genius Hour, please visit, http://www.geniushour.com/ or talk to any of the students in Mrs. Sager's 5th Grade class!

This year, the YMCA is partnering with us to host Fuel Up to Play.  They are completing the Marathon Kids program with their students before school.  Fuel Up to Play is open at 7:00 am and runs until 7:35 when duty teachers are on the playground.  More information about Marathon Kids can be found below.  Please click the link to register.  You will be notified by e-mail once your child is accepted into the club.  If you do not receive an e-mail, your child has been placed on a waiting list.

Click Here to Register for Fuel Up to Play-Marathon Kids

Each Marathon Kids running club participant has a goal of completing four marathons (104.8 miles) incrementally over the course of the running club season. Our methods have been tested, researched and revised — and they work. Really well. Kids of all levels and abilities run or walk a lap at a time, a day at a time, and before they know it they’ve gone farther than they ever dreamed. And they keep on running.

Marathon Kids works for any kid, at any fitness level. Kids set goals and track progress. They learn to fuel their bodies so that they can run better, faster, longer. And for a little extra motivation, they earn Nike rewards at marathon milestones. They also have a network of adults who show them how it’s done.

Every kid deserves the chance to be happy and healthy. That’s why Marathon Kids provides the tools, motivation and support to help get kids active. Let’s get them running!
