Daily 5

The Daily 5 is a structure that enables students to engage in meaningful and standards-based activities, while the teacher provides small group instruction.

In literacy, the Daily 5 helps students develop daily habits of reading, writing and working with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy.

The five literacy rotation areas are:

  • Read to Self
  • Work on Writing
  • Read to Someone
  • Listen to Reading
  • Word Work

In Math, the Daily 5 helps students build and maintain independence while practicing, working, learning and enjoying math. The resulting independence provides the environment teachers need to provide just-in-time differentiated instruction in small groups or one-on-one.

The five math rotation areas are:

  • Math by Myself
  • Mathy with Someone
  • Math with Technology
  • Math Writing
  • Math Work
